Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has hailed Edinson Cavani for vacating the No.7 shirt for Cristiano Ronaldo who returned to the club days ago.

Cavani who was handed the shirt when he joined United from Paris St-Germain in the summer of 2020 will now wear the No.21 shirt.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of United’s Premier League game against Newcastle United this weekend, Solskjaer described Cavani’s gesture as a sign of respect for Ronaldo.

“Edinson has been remarkable,” praised Solskjaer.

“Cristiano spoke with Edinson and they spoke to each other. And to pass on his shirt just shows the respect he’s got for Cristiano, but also Cristiano speaking to Edinson shows the respect the other way. Two top, top professionals and players.”

Ronaldo wore the shirt throughout his six seasons as a Red between 2003 and 2009 before he moved to Real Madrid and then Juventus where he also wore the No.7.
