How to download media from your WhatsApp story to your phone

Whatsapp is unarguably one of the most popular messaging platforms and with its story feature, users get to upload text, images, and videos that only mutual contacts can view.

On WhatsApp stories, the shared texts, photos, and videos are automatically deleted in 24 hours.

A downside to this feature is that WhatsApp does not enable the download of shared images, videos, or GIFs in the statuses directly to your phone’s gallery.

In this piece, we share two ways to download media from your WhatsApp story to your phone:

Use a third-party application to download the statuses

There are various third-party applications on Google Playstore that aid the download of pictures and videos to your phone.

The search query ‘WhatsApp story saver’ will open you to a plethora of applications to choose from.

You must have viewed multiple WhatsApp Status articles on your phone before they appear in the third-party app.

Select the photos or videos you want to save and tap the ‘save’ option. All files will be saved in the gallery of your device.

Locate the Android WhatsApp status folder

Interestingly, the WhatsApp story you want to download is already saved in your device memory.

All you have to do is locate a single hidden folder called ‘statuses’, view the folder, and copy the status you want to a new folder.

To access the memory of your device, go to the WhatsApp folder. On the WhatsApp folder, tap ‘media’ and locate ‘statuses.’

Copy the image or video you want to save and paste it into a new folder.

If you didn’t see the ‘statuses’ folder, open the Google Files app, go to settings and enable ‘show hidden files’.
