The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is the highest ranking military officer of the Nigerian Army.
The position is often occupied by the most senior commissioned officer appointed by the President of Nigeria. The current COAS is Attahiru Ibrahim, who replaced Tukur Yusuf Buratai after rising demands he be replaced.

Boko-Haram is an Islamist terrorist group founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002, the group has been led by Abubakar Shekau since 2009. When Boko Haram first formed, their actions were nonviolent.
Their main goal was to purify Islam in northern Nigeria. Since March 2015, the group has been aligned with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Since the current insurgency started in 2009, Boko Haram has killed tens of thousands and displaced 2.3 million Nigerians from their homes and was at one time the world’s deadliest terror group according to the Global Terrorism Index.
Boko Haram has contributed to regional food crises and famines.The group is known for its brutality.
About Tukur Yusuf Buratai Insurgency War Against Boko-Haram
The past Chief of Army Staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai has on several intentional and local publications claimed to had defeated the the dreaded Terrorists group Boko-Haram, yet nothing changes. The killer group are still killing soldiers, civilians, kidnapping and terrorizing the northern part of the country on daily basis.
In other words, Buratai failed to put Boko Haram Insurgencies in Nigeria, to an end. In a nutshell, he is a FAILURE in capital letters.
Can The New COAS Attahiru Ibrahim Deliver?🤔
Ibrahim Attahiru was a Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole (the Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Outfit in North Eastern Nigeria) until he was relieved from the position in 2017 for an alleged incompetence.
He was General Officer Commanding 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu prior to his appointment as Chief of Army Staff. In 2017, he was ordered by his predecessor Buratai Lt.Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai to destroy Boko Haram and capture Abubakar Shekau, the leader dead or alive. He reportedly failed this mission and was removed from his post.
Now that he has been singlehandedly appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as COAS, is he going to perform magic? Hopefully he does.
