Omah Stanley Didia popularly known as Omah Lay took the Nigeria’s music industry by storm in the year 2020.
His rapid music career growth stems from his unique kind of sound and his song writing pattern which has a blend of pidgin English and queens English delivered with International standard vocals.
The 23-year-old singer was born and bred in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and his music started growing from there before it then spread to other parts of Nigeria and whole of Africa like Ebola virus.
It was gathered that Omah Lay started getting considerable amount of radio airplays in Port-Harcourt in 2019 for his singles like “Do Not Disturb” and “Hello Brother“.
With 2 solid EPs out in his name, Omah Lay‘s music career is waxing stronger by the day and Nigerians seems to be craving for more music projects from the young superstar.
Omah Lay’s Journey To Stardom in 2020
Putting out music under the umbrella of Keyqaad Record Label, it is safe to say Omah Lay had signed under a record label that believed so much in his sound that the label would stop at nothing to break the young artiste to the mainstream.
Omah Lay’s breakthrough didn’t come too easy without the Label spend huge million dollar bills on the promotion of his debut EP, “Get Layd” released on the 22nd May 2020.
The talent is there, his music is appealing to the ears, all Omah Lay needed was huge exposure and his record label really did justice to that by jumping on series of promotional opportunities across all major music platforms.
After about 2 months of serious promotions, Omah Lay is already fast becoming the most sought-after artiste in Nigeria’s music industry with “Bad Influence” and other tracks on Get Layd EP doing massive numbers.
The first attempt at shooting Omah Lay to limelight with “Get Layd” EP was a success and all he needed was consistent release of good songs to ride on the already established wave.
Omah Lay’s Career After “Get Layd” EP
Like every other break out acts, Omah Lay needed to prove that he is really worth the attention and the hype.
After, “Get Layd” EP, Omah Lay got into music collaborations with Olamide on “Infinty” off Olamide’s Carpie Diem album and the song appears to be one of the best on the album.
The song had Omah Lay doing the most lyrically while Olamide, the official owner of the song only came through with one incredible rap verse to drive home their synergy.
Omah Lay also worked with Wizkid and Adekunle Gold on DJ Tunez‘ song, “Pami“, a superb Afro-RnB song and of course Omah Lay did justice to beat on his own verse.
Moving on from collaborations, Omah Lay wraps up his break-out year with another amazing music project he titled “What We Have Done“.
The 5 tracks EP released in November had tracks like “My Bebe“, “Can’t Relate” and “Godly” making hit already in Nigeria and across Africa.
Right now, it won’t be entirely wrong to assert that Omah Lay already captured the hearts of most Nigerian music lovers with his style and pattern of music delivery.
Can Omah Lay Grow To Become Another Wizkid Of Nigeria’s Music Industry?
Don’t get it twisted, this question is a question of whether Omah Lay has what it takes to stay on the radar like this for the next 10 years just like Wizkid.
Judging from his current wave, it can easily be deduced that Omah Lay already captured Nigeria and Africa’s music market but versatility is held into high esteem to achieve year-in-year out success.
No doubt, Omah Lay’s current pattern of beat and flows is working for him but can it keep him on the radar for the next 10 years?
Take a wide look around the Nigeria’s music industry and see the people who have stayed on same kind of wave or even higher than their break-out year, you will notice that they survived through deliberate switch from one style to another according to industry demands.
Wizkid wouldn’t have been relevant today, if he had stayed glued to one sound and one pattern of beat.
If Omah Lay will find it difficult to switch pattern of beat and flows then he should consider taking his music beyond Africa as soon as possible, doing that will cement his place at the top spot for long.
His collaboration with American artiste, 6lack on “Damn” off “What We Have Done” EP is a good shot and he needs more of those international music engagements.
The fact that Omah Lay’s sound can easily appeal to International audience is a big advantage he needs to make use of as soon as possible.
But as far as 2020 is concerned, Omah Lay came and conquered.
