Most Government and history teachers in our secondary school painted Lord Frederick Lugard and his babe Flora Shaw as heros of Nigeria.
In the real sense of it, are they truly heroes because I don’t know how amalgamation of different territories to form one country they name Nigeria has been beneficial.
What Lord Luggard And Flora Shaw Came To Do In Nigeria
On January 1st 1914, Lord Fredrick Luggard came to this part of Africa as governor of Northern Protectorate, The Lagos Colony and Protectorate Of Southern Nigeria.
Without considering the opinion of people in the protectorates, Lord Luggard went ahead to amalgamate all the protectorates together and his babe, Flora Shaw gave the name Nigeria.
They didn’t consider the fact that people in different parts that they brought together have different cultures, languages, religion.
Lord Luggard didn’t even take into consideration possible ethnic war or internal conflicts that could happen in future.
They just forced everyone together just to have a good ground to exploit us all and all our natural resources.
Yet, our secondary school teachers made it looked like that they have done something heroic by creating this Zoo they call Nigeria.
