A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said that the Federal Government has more than enough resources to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, lamenting that the government’s alleged foot-dragging of the matter was unnecessary.
Recall that ASUU had been on strike since March 23, 2020 over rejection of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, IPPIS, as well as some outstanding issues of 2019 Memorandum of Action between the Federal Government and the association.
Taking a swipe on the Federal Government on his twitter handle on Friday, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain and former presidential aspirant said the country had all it takes to save the universities from total collapse.
According to him, the money generated out of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, recovered Abacha loots and forfeitures from the Economic and financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are enough to meet the lecturers’ demands.
“With over 800billions from Customs every six months PLUS Abacha’s recovered money PLUS monies EFCC retrieved, I think we have more than enough to meet ASUU’s demand thus save our Universities from total collapse!,” Mr Lamido wrote.
