BREAKING: Ganduje Bows To Pressure, Allows Juma’at And Eid Prayers

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has relaxed the lockdown order, allowing the Friday and Eid prayers to hold in the state.

The governor reviewed the decision after a marathon meeting with 30 Islamic scholars, drawn from all sects in the state on Monday.
Mr Ganduje accepted the recommendations of the clerics to allow Friday prayer to continue and Eid prayer to hold on Saturday or Sunday to mark the end of the month of Ramadan.
The governor explained that while the Friday and Eid prayers are allowed to hold, the Monday and Thursday relaxation of the lockdown order imposes on the state would continue.
He however stated that the prayers would be held under strict observance of the COVID-19 protocols, to be overseen by the state Hisbah Board.
“His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR has accepted and approved recommendations by a select group of 30 Islamic scholars in Kano for the government to allow Friday Prayers to hold as well as Eid Prayers,” according to Salihu Yakasai, Special Adviser to the governor on media in a statement on Monday.
“The Governor gave this directive after a lengthy consultation with the Islamic Scholars and other government officials at Africa House, in the Government House.” the statement said.
He said the traditional Sallah festivities, especially the durbar would not hold, in line with the protective measures against the disease.
“This means that the relaxation of the lockdown on the days of Monday and Thursday will continue, but Friday prayers will also be allowed as well as Eid Prayers, but traditional Eid celebrations in the State will not be allowed.
“The Imams had also been directed to ensure that everyone wears face mask, as well as the use of sanitizers and washing of hands. They should also observe spacing as well as making brief hudubah and observing social distancing.
“The State Government has also inaugurated a committee that will oversee the distribution of hand sanitizers, Sanitation equipment as well as face masks among others to Imams of Friday Mosques in the State,” Mr Yakasai added.
