From Detention to Nomination : Omoyele Sowore Bags a Nomination By The United States:

Just days after being released from DSS detention, the convener of #Revolutionnow protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore has been nominated to receive the Prisoner of Conscience honor from the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the united states House of Representatives. The bipartisan commission is charred with promoting, defending and advocating for international human rights. 
     The Pro-democracy campaigner and journalist, was released on Christmas eve by the Department of the State Service, DSS. By the order of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami was applauded by many for his call for a better Nigeria. Josh Gottheimer, a U.S lawmaker sponsored Sowore's nomination for the prestigious recognition. The congressman made known to the public his moves during a meeting with other dignitaries. 

     According to him, ''For months now, I have been working closely with the Sowore's family, the Haworth community, the State Department and my colleagues to advocate on Omoyele's behalf. We urge the Nigerian Government to protect Sowore's safety, provide him with the due process he deserves, and ultimately permit him to return home as soon as possible".

We will continue watching the situation in Nigeria, a democracy seeking closer ties with the United States, to make sure the government respects basic human rights.” 
     The Sahara Reporters CEO was first arrested on August 3, 2019 for calling on Nigerians to take to the streets in peaceful demonstrations to demand a better country from political leaders under the using the hashtag #Revolutionnow . Having been  released on bail on the 5th of December, He was rearrested the following day  by DSS operatives while appearing for his trial in a case brought against him by the Nigerian Government.
    The Presidential candidate for Africa Action Congress AAC, in the last general election spent over four months in detention despite two court orders directing his release on bail during that period.
